One day at BPA Studio, a Caucasian suddenly arrived and said he was looking for Bondan P. Then after we met, the Caucasians said they wanted to use BPA design services. The Caucasians are named Mr. Sebastian, originally from Brussels, Belgium. After chatting for a while, Mr. Bastian expressed his intention to ask for help making interior design for his home in Belgium.
It was a surprise to us because it turned out that BPA's work was quite recognized by foreigners. Mr. Bastian had brought a picture document from his house, which when he came to our studio, his house was in the construction phase. Mr. Bastian wants the interior design of his house to apply modern style with a few points including the use of Indonesian teak wood, the use of simple-rigid shapes, a combination of ironwood, and several other points related to color and shape.
Actually the interior design that we have to work on is all parts of his house. But because of his limited time in Indonesia, we only designed a few spaces. The rest later when he went to Indonesia again. The plan for physical work is partly furniture done in Indonesia, especially furniture made from teak wood.
The space we designed at this initial stage is the family room, dining room, kitchen, and work space. For workspace, Mr. Bastian wants a simple workspace, there is only a work desk and one chair, a cabinet table on the back of the chair, and an aquarium in front of the table. There are several requests from Mr. Bastian about the furniture in this office. Among them is the presence of a wall clock that shows three times, namely America, Belgium and Indonesia. These three countries are countries where Mr. Bastian often spends time.
The dining room that integrates with the family room and kitchen has access opening directly to the backyard of his house. Access to this backyard uses a large glass door that folds left and right. Metal door with clear glass filler - the style that is favored by Mr. Bastian.
Kitchen set in the kitchen using wood material coated with white paint finish. Especially for this kitchen area, Mr. Bastian wants furniture not wood-textured, in contrast to other areas of the room. There is an island table between the kitchen set and dining room. The table uses original granite and there is a kitchen zinc for washing dishes.
There is one unique thing from the dining room Mr. Bastian. The ceiling above the dining room follows the slope of the roof so that the room seems spacious. To fill the space void, the ceiling is placed in the form of an airplane propeller made of wood. Space lighting is hung on the propeller. the size of the propeller is quite large, which is 3 meters, so it needs a strong enough strapping structure that is attached to the roof frame.
From the picture above, you can see the arrangement of Mr. Bastian is very simple. The Family Room adjacent to the dining room does not use a permanent area divider, only uses a low bed / cabinet to limit the floor area, does not limit the area visually.
The office area uses only a little furniture that is really functionally efficient. There is only one integrated table with a high shelf. Mr. Bastian works alone so that he doesn't need much space for guests or work partners. Guest chairs are placed only as a complement when there are people visiting. Behind the chair is a cabinet to store the files. There is one request from Mr. Bastian, namely the existence of a world map made of wood that wants to be attached to the back wall of the work chair. The plan, Mr. Bastian which is a hobby around the world will mark which places / countries he has visited.
Bout the aquarium, when we asked, did Mr. Bastian likes activities related to water, or fish, he answered no. He only likes fish and aquariums, but doesn't like fishing activities ...
